National-level SBM Workshop

The Event – A 3-day workshop on the Swachh Bharat Mission at Candolim, Goa 

Workshop Partners: NITI Aayog, CSIR-NEERI, Sulabh International, and NAHRD 

Particpants: Officials representing 19 organization such as local bodies, the State and Central Government departments, Pollution Control Boards, and other government bodies such as the Indian Railways, SEZs and port trusts, experts in the field of waste management, technology and solution providers, procurement expert and executives from the administration.

Objective of the Workshop

Orientation on the Swachha Bharat Mission (SBM) and Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2016 by – 

  • Promoting a better understanding of the relevant rules, regulations and notifications issued by the government, 
  • Capacity building on techniques and technologies applicable to sanitation and waste management services
  • Understanding the hurdles being faced by the participants and their agencies during project implementation

Conclusion

At the end of the 3-day workshop participants returned with a better understanding of the concepts of sanitation and waste management, the steps involved in providing these services and their significance, and resolution to some of their queries. Our workshop organising team also gained from this workshop; we got a glance at the people’s perspective to sanitation and waste management, the concerns they have as regards these services and a better understanding of reasons for non-achievement of the mandates of the SBM and SWM Rules.

The Workshop Report provides the details of the proceedings of the workshop and recommendations, based on the discussions and consultations during various sessions, submitted to the Government for facilitating the implementation of the mandates of the SBM and SWM Rules.
